There has been interest in a citation PDF cover page. Some reasons for this would be that an item/bitstream in DSpace could be missing the context (i.e. single scanned page in a journal, i.e. what page, what journal, what edition), and adding this metadata to a citation cover page, someone who obtained this PDF would have the context to piece it together.
An implementation of this can be found at:
The requirements that I have are that the citation-version of the PDF is never stored in DSpace, and should instead be generated on-the-fly combining the original PDF, and the item's metadata, plus the recipe for how the cover page should be styled. It should be configureable as to whether this feature is enabled or not, enabled globally for all PDF's in the repo or not, and config for if it should be enabled for a particular community or collection. Additionally, you could decide if it should be the cover page, or a tail page. Lastly, I'm not 100% certain what customizations for the text on the cover page we can achieve (i.e. institution specific branding/logo, which particular metadata fields).
