Using maven 3.3.1 (installed from the binary distribution on RHEL 6.6), building DSpace with -Dmirage2.on=true succeeds; however, the same broken XMLUI screen is shown as mentioned in
The maven output during the build contains this message:
[INFO] ------ (Mirage2) com.github.eirslett:frontend-maven-plugin:0.0.16:install-node-and-npm
org.apache.maven.plugin.PluginExecutionException: Execution null of goal com.github.eirslett:frontend-maven-plugin:0.0.16:install-node-and-npm failed: A required class was missing while executing com.github.eirslett:frontend-maven-plugin:0.0.16:install-node-and-npm: org/slf4j/helpers/MarkerIgnoringBase
It looks to me like this is related to https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-5787 - Maven 3.3.1 breaks plugins with the SLF4J API on the class path – I don't have time to check the fix suggested there for suitability in DSpace.
The same codebase / build command work fine using Maven 3.2.5, so perhaps we should simply recommend that people use Maven <= 3.2.5 for now.
Note that while the error occurred in building Mirage 2, I haven't tried Maven 3.3.1 with Mirage 2 disabled – it may be that this causes problems as well.
